Construction of an explosion: inhabited and imagined spaces

Live virtual event

April 22, 2021, from 7pm until 8pm
A virtual event, live streamed on twitch.tv/placedesarts

Co-presented by the Place des Arts de Sudbury, for the Forum Avantage Numérique

Patrick Harrop, Eric Lalonde and Jeremy Upward, three digital artists from Sudbury, invite you to come and explore the imaginary of the Place des Arts. Using virtual models of the building as a canvas on which moving images, texts, and special scenographic effects will be projected, the three artists explore the virtual and physical spaces that we inhabit and that inhabit us. They thus offer an improvised media art collage on the surface of a structure in the making, in order to celebrate this unifying place in full metamorphosis.

Artist Profile

Eric Lalonde

Intertwined between the physical and the digital, Eric Lalonde is an artist and architectural intern who resides in Sudbury, Ontario. He is fascinated by the potential that lies between the built environment and the media arts. His artistic experience is based on light, sound, modular synthesis, projection and real-time programming. The principles of analog and digital are thematically relevant in his pieces and have inspired greater duality in his work. His various projects seek to involve the viewer, not only as audience, but also as part of the process, which ultimately reinforces the unique experience. He participated in the Nuit blanche 2020 at the McEwen School of Architecture and in the FAAS at the Galerie du Nouvel-Ontario in 2018.

Artist Profile

Jeremy Upward

Jeremy Upward is a Sudbury-based digital artist with a background in architecture. His passion for digital media turns into an exploration of the duality between physical and digital space, as well as an interweaving of visual and sound phenomena. Using tools like TouchDesigner and Ableton, he explores these ideas through digital projection to transform what is traditionally bound to a computer screen into a three-dimensional, spatial and sound experience. As society increasingly embraces the internet, Jeremy believes it is important to explore how to integrate everyone’s digital life into their physical life. In recent years, his work has been presented to the public at numerous official events such as Nuit Blanche at the McEwen School of Architecture and the guerrilla-style pieces seen inside the condos offered for The Brewer Lofts.
