Artist ProfileBen McCarthy
Ben McCarthy’s compositional practice takes found sound as a source material. He is drawn to both the intuitive allure of a sonic texture, and the inherent rhythm and melody in the natural, machinic and synthetic sounds we find ourselves immersed in. Sometimes using text or audio documentary underscored by synthesizers and voice, his compositions and installations raise questions about acoustic epistemologies specifically around the social and economical conditions that produce the listening subject.
