Traces et empreintes urbaines

Exhibition

Traces et empreintes urbaines is a reflection on urban space and how time leaves its mark on it. In questioning the notion of territory, my intention is to create a map room based on a new urban imagination. This involves taking an atypical and experimental look at this type of space, to reflect on it by combining in the gallery a wide view, through fictitious urban street plans, with a close-up view, through topographical plans of alleyways. Two memories are superimposed, one by the deformation of regular city maps, the other inspired by asphalt’s degradation due to wear and tear (depressions, cracks, potholes). In so doing, I overturn the relationships between what is durable and impermanent, close and far, microscopic and macroscopic.

This cartographical installation proposes a reinvention of the city, underscoring the random and ephemeral nature of all these temporal traces, thus indicating that the map will always have to be redrawn and reconceptualized.
