« A GUEST + A HOST = A GHOST »
—Marcel Duchamp« I seek both at once the eternal and the ephemeral. »
—Georges Perec
Three Ghosts consists of three performances in the gallery and its two storefront windows.
Thursday May 5 at 8 pm
He sits in the GNO’s right window. He types away at a typewriter, writing a text that will never be read. The sounds he makes are projected onto Elgin Street’s sidewalk.
Friday May 6 at 8 pm
He sits in the GNO’s left window. He plays away at a miniature piano, improvising a melody with no musical arrangement. The sounds he makes are projected onto Elgin Street’s sidewalk.
Saturday May 7 at 8 pm
He walks back and forth in the gallery’s space. His movements are aimless. The sounds of his steps are projected onto Elgin Street’s sidewalk.
Sunday May 8 at 1 pm
The gallery space is completely empty. Only the sounds of the previous performances echo on the walls. The audio collage of the three evenings that preceded the exhibit’s opening is all that occupies the space. With no visual references, the visitor is left to his own devices.
