Au cœur de la ville focuses on the relationship between the individual and society. Endowed with a personality of its own, the individual is linked to a social group which, in turn, has characteristics of its own. While recognizing the importance of the proper functioning of the group as a whole, society must give pride of place to each of its members. Realistic or utopian ideology? Where is the individual in the heart of the city? What is its true place? The continuity of the patterns, the diversity of the techniques, the effectiveness of the primary colors and the choice of materials used by the artist give coherence to the whole while highlighting the uniqueness of each piece. If each drawing is individualized, it only exists in its relationship to others.
Geneviève Rocher
Born in Cambridge (United States), Geneviève Rocher lives and works in Montreal. A prominent figure in Quebec feminist abstract painting, Geneviève Rocher devotes her practice to a revaluation of the material, pictorial and structural conditions depreciated by the dominant value systems in the visual arts. Her work highlights discriminating connotations, not only in the choice of motifs, but also more slyly in that of medium, material and formal structures. In recent years, her work has been shown at Galerie B-312 in Montreal (2019), at the galleria La Nube di OOrt in Rome (2015), at Occurence (2012) and at La Centrale Galerie Powerhouse (2010) in Montreal.
