Originally from Corsica and living in Ontario since 1997, Izabel Barsive is a visual artist, director and producer. She has exhibited series of photographs at the Hummingbird Center in Toronto, the X Ottawa Photography Festival, the Voix Visuelle artist-run centre and La Nouvelle Scène in Ottawa. Some series of photographs have been published in the French-language journal Liaison. Her current explorations use digital pinhole cameras and are translated into experimental images and videos created from a smartphone, addressing themes of the environment and the fragility of existence.
She teaches part-time at the University of Ottawa, at local schools and abroad. An occupational therapist by training, she also leads visual arts and media art workshops for people with special needs.
