Debajehmujig's team of artists (Ashley Manitowabi, Samantha Brennan, Sheila Trudeau and Bradleigh Steven Trudeau) thrives on the challenge of creating art that is holistically connected to the place on which it lives, with everything from the concept to the materials coming from the area where the piece is created. In a structure erected by a settler organization, meant for French and English speakers, how do we honour and acknowledge that we are on traditional Aanishnabe territory? As modern Canadians, how do we view the concept of “territory”, and how can we all find belonging on this land together?
