CYCLES
In response to the opening of two major cultural events in Sudbury, within days of each other - Fair of Alternative Art (FAAS) and Salon du Livre du Grand Sudbury - Cheryl Rondeau will realize an intervention that continues her exploration of the intersection between the artworld and the everyday. From 3 to 6 May 2008, she will conduct an expedition by bicycle of approximately 600 km from Toronto to Sudbury – symbolically and physically linking the Ontario’s anglophone and francophone cultural centres. Upon arrival in Sudbury, this endurance initiative will culminate in a tour of the FAAS exhibition sites and Salon du Livre.

« Rondeau’s trip took a total route of 559 kilometres and took place in four stages. The first leg was Toronto-Orillia, followed by a route through Orillia-Magnetewan, followed by a trip through Magnetewan-Noelville and finally Noelville-Sudbury. The trips importance is magnified by Rondeau who recognizes the route as both a symbolic and physical connection to Ontario’s Anglophone and francophone cultural centres. »

SECRETS DE JAVA
Discover your secrets at the bottom of a coffee cup.

Come to the Old Rock Café on Minto Street Saturday May 3rd and Sunday May 4th from noon to 5 p.m. Dominique Banoun’s “Secrets of Java” will give you a glimpse of your secrets, and of an ancient Middle-Eastern practice combined with the digital wizardry of today.

The visual cues from the cup itself, its reading and the faces of the persons being read to are technologically combined in images (granular, of course) to be show in the artist exhibition room at the Town House Tavern on Elgin Street, Tuesday and Wednesday May 6 and 7 from noon to 8pm.

This event is part of FAAS – Fair of Alternative Art of Sudbury.
